National Association of Legal Fee Analysis (NALFA)

Bucklin is not a member of NALFA, but as a service to attorneys recommends  NALFA as a source to investigate when a lawyer needs an expert for the following jobs.

(Litigation) Provide Expert Opinion on the Reasonableness of Attorney Fees. Whether you’re an attorney seeking to recover fees in court or arbitration, or the attorney defending against a fee recovery, or a client negotiating fees with outside counsel,  an expert's opinion and report can provide you with a competitive edge.

Fee-shifting provisions are becoming more common in statutes and contracts. NALFA members include experts who work with both sides in fee disputes. Their work provides the needed legal fee analysis so prevailing parties can recover fees due them and non-prevailing parties can pay only reasonable fees.

(Mediation) Mediate High-Stakes Legal Fee Disputes. Mediation is the most cost effective way to resolve fee disputes. Qualified mediators on legal fees must understand the issues and complexities of attorney fee work and fee bills, plus knowing the issues and leverages in fee disputes which resolve the matter in voluntary mediation.

(Cost Accounting) Review and Analyze Legal Billing Statements. Experts can provide legal cost savings to clients by recognizing billing errors and true inefficiencies that computer programs cannot evaluate properly.
