Helpful South Dakota legal research links.
The South Dakota Supreme Court and the United States District Court for South
Dakota have adopted the "universal citation system" for identifying their
written opinions. This system identifies the opinion by the year, the court, and
the sequential number of the opinion during the year. The South Dakota Supreme
Court opinions are thus identified, e.g., Hoogestraat v. Barnett, 1998 SD 104.
The United States District Court (for the District of South Dakota) opinions are
thus identified, e.g., Yankton Sioux Tribe v. Janklow, 1998 SD 24.
The South Dakota Bar Association has a page with links to the South Dakota
Supreme Court table of cases (designated SD Index) as well as the
United States District Court cases (DSD Index)
The Case Index gives a complete list of available cases. It is quite large
and takes time to download.
